A Hindu Undivided Family
(HUF) is a unique type of financial entity in India. It consists of a family
group (all males lineally descended from a common ancestor, their wives, and
unmarried daughters) that jointly owns property and income.
Opening an HUF account is
unlike opening individual accounts online; an HUF account can only be opened
offline. This means you need to fill out physical forms and submit documents in
person or via email.
Before applying, check if
your HUF is already KYC registered. You can do this at https://www.cvlkra.com. This will determine
which documents you need.
KYC stands for "Know
Your Customer." It's a process where financial institutions verify your
identity and address. This is required by law to prevent fraud and money
laundering.
In a HUF, the 'Karta' is
the head of the family and manages the HUF's affairs. Usually, it's the eldest
male, but it can be a female in some cases.
