How to open a HUF account with 5paisa?

A Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) is a unique type of financial entity in India. It consists of a family group (all males lineally descended from a common ancestor, their wives, and unmarried daughters) that jointly owns property and income.

Opening an HUF account is unlike opening individual accounts online; an HUF account can only be opened offline. This means you need to fill out physical forms and submit documents in person or via email.

Before applying, check if your HUF is already KYC registered. You can do this at https://www.cvlkra.com. This will determine which documents you need.

KYC stands for "Know Your Customer." It's a process where financial institutions verify your identity and address. This is required by law to prevent fraud and money laundering.

In a HUF, the 'Karta' is the head of the family and manages the HUF's affairs. Usually, it's the eldest male, but it can be a female in some cases.

Documents Needed if HUF's KYC is Not Registered:

  1. Application Forms:
    • Equity, Derivative & Commodity form (you'll get this from 5paisa)
    • HUF Declaration form (also from 5paisa)
  2. HUF's PAN Card:
    • A copy with the HUF's seal and signature
    • If it's an ancestral family PAN, you need an extra declaration
  3. Address Proof:
    • HUF's address proof (bank statement or passbook) with seal and signature
    • Self-attested Karta's address proof (Aadhaar, driving license, voter ID, or passport) with HUF's seal and signature. Ensure a masked aadhaar is submitted in case Aadhaar is submitted as a proof.
  4. Bank Account Proof:
    • HUF's bank account details for linking with 5paisa
    • It can be a cancelled cheque, bank statement, or passbook
  5. Income Proof (for trading in F&O and commodities):
    • Current last 6 months Bank statements, previous year audited profit & loss statements, latest ITR acknowledgement , net-worth certificates, or investment statement
  6. Female Karta:
    • If the Karta is female, an extra self-declaration is needed.

If Karta is an NRI (Non-Resident Indian):

  • Notarized copies of PAN, overseas address proof, and Indian address proof (if any)
  • In the case of Merchant Navy NRIs, a certified copy of the Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) or a mariner's declaration.
  • Valid passport and visa
  • FATCA and FEMA declarations (these are about foreign tax and exchange rules)

In-Person Verification (IPV):

  • This is a face-to-face meeting to confirm you're the same person as in the documents
  • It's required by law for all brokers

How to Submit:

  • Email scanned copies to accountopening@5paisa.com
  • Then, visit 5paisa's office for the in-person verification: Sun Infotech Park, Road No.16V, Plot No. B-23 Thane Industrial Area, Wagle Estate, Thane – 400604

Remember:

  • Always use the HUF's seal and signature where required
  • For Aadhaar, use a "masked" version that hides some digits
  • If unsure, contact 5paisa's customer support for help
